1º NB (A1) The Top Ten Spanish People of all time

In our 1st year class we are now studying the past simple of the verb TO BE, and we are doing it by discussing about famous people's biographies.

1ºB students have voted for who, in their opinion, is the top Spanish person of all time, and we have come up with a list of the Top Ten.

Here it is:

1. MIGUEL DE CERVANTES

2. Santiago Ramón y Cajal

3. Gustavo Adolfo Béquer

4. Queen Isabella of Castile

5. Blas Infante

6. Felix Lópe de Vega

7. Pablo Picasso

8. Iñaki Gabilondo

9. Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, "El Cid"

10. Felipe González

In previous years, they voted for:

1. MIGUEL DE CERVANTES

2. Christopher Columbus (who, strictly speaking, was not Spanish, but what the heck!!)

Click on their names to learn a bit more about them.

Becquer and Lorca. What a couple! Two of the biggest andalusian, spanish, and world poets in history!
I have to say I am also very glad to see Felipe González on the list.
Congratulations for the work.
Keep learning !
:)

I have just received an anonymous comment on my personal blog and I want to share it with all of you:

"I don't know how can you compare Becquer and Lorca with Felipe González. It's just a none sense. You have really disappointed me .What you have done with your comment is unclean the name of poetry itself."

Of course, whoever shared this opinion on my blog did not understand my previous comment here. I just said I was glad to see names such as Becquer, Lorca and González written on the list. I was not comparing anyone. First I talked about the poets, and then about Felipe. That's all.

I'm a socialist and because of that I don't undervalue the poetry, beacuse poetry itself is a form of freedom and a way to express emotions, and it has nothing to do with politics.

But if you were looking for a link, here you've got a great one between Lorca and González: Lorca, as told by himself, was an anarchist and a communist. What is a complete nonsense is denying that.
