Next Monday 8 March we celebrate the International Women's Day. It is, once more, a great occasion to celebrate the lives of all the extraordinary women that have contributed to make the world what it is today.

CLARA CAMPOAMOR (1888-1972)
Spanish republican politician.
Advocate for women rights
Born in Madrid, is considered one of the mothers of women's suffrage in Spain, being one of three deputies to the Constituent Courts of the Second Republic.
Advocate of equal rights for women, was one of the promoters of the adoption of universal suffrage in Spain, winning the female vote in the first Republicans elections and the first law of divorce.
Agustina Raimunda Maria Zaragoza Doménech (Agustina de Aragon)
(1786-1857)
She was the figure most representative of the resistance of the Aragones people, against the French troops during The War of the Spanish Independence.
When there were numerous war-wounded, She shooted the artillery.
The painter Goya, painted her in his serie of the Disaster of the War.
She was born in Reus(Barcelona) and She died in Ceuta.
FEDERICA MONTSENY (1905-1995)
She was the first minister of a Spanish government and the first European minister, but some people think that she is the first minister of the world too.
She studied philosophy and letters at the University of Barcelona.
She wrote about philosophy, literature and feminism.
She was minister of health and social assistance (1936-1937) when Spain was in full civil war and she was the only minister. After the war she exiled in France.
She enacted a law on abortion and she created centres for prostitutes where they can learn a trade as well having accommodation.
She was mother and a politician and she spent her whole life to the liberation of women.
For her personality, her ideas and her commitment to the policy, called "the passion anarchist”.
ISABEL ALLENDE

Isabel Allende was born in 1942, she's from Chile. She studied journalism and she worked in newspapers and on TV. In 1973, her uncle, Salvador Allende, was murdered in Pinochet's coup and she left her country.
In Caracas she began her novels, the most important was "The house of spirits". After that, she wrote other novels:"Of love and of Shadow", "Eva Luna", "Paula"... Today she continues writing to the deligth of her readers.
FRANCISCA ADAME HENS. (Adamuz, Córdoba. 1922)
The Civil War changed her life forever.
She spents her youth with visits to prisons and concentration camp. Her father and brother were there.
She should work and couldn’t go to school. In the eighteenths ('80s), she was 65 years old when she began to study in adult school and learned to read and write.
Now, she writes poems to not forget those years and recite them. She hope that it will never happen again.
In 2005 she was awarded with the Medal of Andalusia by example to look for justice without revenge.
Francisca lives in Fuente Palmera, Córdoba. She has written to defend democracy and remember some forgottens.

Just one thing: I'm searching information about Sonia Gandhi, and as far as I have been able to see, she has never been Prime Minister of India. She was the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's wife and president of the Congress Party. I have extracted this from the BBC website: "The widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi would have become India's first Roman Catholic prime minister had she not surprised everyone by turning the post down after her general election success in 2004."
So, officially, her mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi, IS to date the only female Prime Minister in the history of India.

HELEN KELLER (1880-1968)
With only nineteen months old,she went deaf and blind.This fact marked the beginning of a overcoming life.
Thanks to her governess, Anne Sullivan, learnt to the communicate and she could choose a worthy education even she got her titles with honors in Arts, Radchifle university.
She was the first blind and deaf person who got an university title.
There is one point I would like to make about the comment on AGUSTINA DE ARAGÓN, on behalf of our classmate Yolanda - Agustina de Aragón was from Reus, a city in TARRAGONA, not in Barcelona.

Saint Joan of Arc or The Maid of Orléans (French: Jeanne d'Arc;ca. 1412– 30 May 1431) is a national heroine of France and a Catholic saint. A peasant girl born in eastern France, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War, claiming divine guidance, and was indirectly responsible for the coronation of Charles VII. She was captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, tried by an ecclesiastical court, and burned at the stake when she was nineteen years old.Twenty-four years later, on the initiative of Charles VII, Pope Callixtus III reviewed the decision of the ecclesiastical court, found her innocent, and declared her a martyr.She was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920.She is, along with St. Denis, St. Martin of Tours, St. Louis IX, and St. Theresa of Lisieux, one of the patron saints of France.

GOLDA MEIR (1898-1978)
For five years Golda Meir was Prime Minister of Israel. She found with the king Abdulla of Jordan in secret to avoid the arabe invasion in Israel. During her tenure there was the war of Yom Kippur. She concentrated its efforts on the diplomatic front, achieving great success with economic and military aid.
